Douglas Maple is a maker of custom harpsichords and clavichords patterned after historical prototypes. These instruments represent a variety of national schools of building and time periods. He has been active as a maker since 1975, and he also offers maintenance and rebuilding services. Models chosen for construction are most often based on his own interests and experience, but inquiries concerning other noteworthy instruments are also welcomed.

Custom instruments commissioned by the buyer require a contract, and payments are generally made at intervals during the construction period. Occasionally, however, finished instruments built for display purposes or to explore new designs may be available for sale.
