Given various factors that can affect the amount of time it takes to construct an instrument, it is difficult to give exact prices here. The following numbers should be regarded only as base estimates for commissioned instruments with simple painted or varnished finishes and minimal decorative work. In base-level models the keyboards are ordinarily covered with ebony, bone, or boxwood as historically appropriate, and a basic trestle stand is provided for harpsichords. Unfretted clavichords include four square-tapered legs that screw into blocks mounted on the bottom of the instrument. Alternate keyboard coverings, higher levels of case decoration, and more elaborate legs or stands can be supplied. Please send an inquiry for more details. The final price will be agreed upon only after the maker and the buyer have discussed the options. Occasionally, finished instruments built either on speculation or as display models may be offered for sale; prices for these instruments may differ from those of commissioned instruments. Requests for custom alterations to an instrument's design, such as adjusting keyboard dimensions, may be considered, as long as the changes are practical and do not adversely affect the mechanical or sonic properties of the instrument. Such changes require extra work in terms of planning, new drawings, etc., and reasonable adjustments in the price must be expected. Price List May 2025
